Iberia
Orlando Bass
French-British concert pianist Orlando Bass will perform Isaac Albéniz's masterpiece Iberia, performed for the concert on a rare J.L. Duysen grand piano made in Berlin in 1905, restored for the concert. Albeniz, who died in 1909 at the age of just 48, composed his impressionistic masterpiece between 1905 and 1909. Albeniz's compositions of the last decade are marked by a strong Andalusian musical tradition and the use of improvisational influences in the musical language.
Born in 1994, Orlando Bass is one of the new generation of art music composers who combine technical virtuosity and improvisation, enabling new interpretations of classical themes. Bass's recording "Preludios y Fugas para piano solo" from 2018 and the double album "Piano Works" with Olivier Penard from 2020 represent the forefront of this trend.
